Waste material re-use and recycling worker co-ops
Here’s five videos from around the world about worker owned businesses that recycle and reuse materials which otherwise would have gone to landfill. The great thing about these new community owned businesses that there are now jobs where before there was waste. These businesses could potentially work in any area with a critical mass of waste resources and population, and this is one of the key areas we look at for opportunities during the area resource mapping study.

Yellowknife Glass recycling CO-OP – Canada
Cambridge Wood Works CO-OP – UK
The Bower recycling and reuse CO-OP – Australia
Green Workers CO-OPs USA

Excellent videos with food for thought! Maybe someone watching will be inspired to start a similar project.
Hi Bernard
We’re looking at some towns in North Tipperary at the moment to see who would be interested in working in CO-OPs like these, re-using old things that can be repaired. We will find out soon what is viable, but it probably depends on population concentrations, so the cites would be better for this type of thing.
Meanwhile, here’s another one, a computer repair CO-OP from SanFrasisco, which seems to be getting itself into profitability now
